Description

Cardell Halls and Public House, located at 803 and 805 Govan Road in Glasgow, dates back to 1894 and features a Scots Baronial style with traditional detailing. This two-storey building with an attic is constructed of red coursed rubble.

The ground floor houses a public house with a modern frontage facing Govan Road. On the first floor, there is a central shallow canted window flanked by bipartite windows. A broken pedimented dormer window is situated under the chimney stack, and the building features scrolled skewputts and a slate roof. The elevation facing Burleigh Street is similar, but it retains a simple ground floor, an advanced central tripartite window, and a strapworked dormer.

The west elevation is made of brick, while the east elevation showcases a Jacobean stack, scalloped skewputts, and an arrow cross-slit. A depressed arched door with columns features an elaborate cushion capital and a carved dog. Above, a first-floor window is set under a broken pedimented armorial panel dated 1894. Inside, there is a door leading to a spiral staircase that transitions to an octagonal shape at the top, featuring small windows and a port-hole. A sculptured cat clings to the cornice, and the building is topped with a conical slate roof adorned with a ball finial. The interior of the pub has been mainly altered.
