Description

5, 7, 9 Water Row in Glasgow is a building designed by William Tennant in 1897. It is a four-storey structure with an attic and features three bays, constructed from red ashlar stone.

The ground floor has an arched entrance flanked by two large modern shop windows. A central canted window extends from the first to the third floors. The upper floor windows are designed with mullions and transoms, featuring multi-pane upper lights. There is a string course above each storey, and the building is topped with a main cornice and a parapet that includes two pedimented dormer windows with ball finials. A central Venetian dormer window with a segmental pediment sits in front of a steep square slate roof adorned with brattishing.

The elevation facing Pearce Lane has a simplified but similar design, featuring a large gable-end stack with flanking windows and urn finials. The western bay includes an arched ground floor door that is partially blocked, a first-floor cross window, and a tall arched mullion and transom window that rises through the second and third floors, providing light to the stairs. The rear of the building is constructed from brick. Inside, there is a simple tiled stairway with a wrought-iron banister.
