Statue of Isabella Elder, Elder Park, Glasgow

The Statue of Isabella Elder is a figurative seated bronze statue located in Elder Park, Glasgow. Created by Archibald McFarlane Shannan, RSA, it depicts Isabella Elder wearing her academic gown and stands on a large granite plinth. The statue was unveiled on Saturday, 13 October 1906, by the Duchess of Montrose. The front of the plinth features carved laurel branches and the inscription "MRS JOHN ELDER, LL.D.," while the back bears the words "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION 1906," also in a carved style. The statue was cast by J W Singer & Sons in Frome, Somerset, and the granite was cut and assembled according to Shannan's drawings and patterns by D H and J Newall of Dalbeattie.
