Description

Alan B Crombie, 1903-4. Edwardian Renaissance. Tall

2-storey library freestanding within garden area.

Symmetrical main frontage, red ashlar with channelled

ground floor and Ionic order above; 7 bays, 5 with polished

granite columns framing arched 1st floor windows, broad

end bays with Venetian windows set in coupled

pilasters and pedimented above. Ground floor windows

transomed, end bays with mullions also. Central arched

doorpiece set in banded Roman Doric pilasters with

figures above, central aedicular inscription panel

between. Slate roof, concealed by parapet.

Single bay return elevations also with columns/pilasters

and pediment framing 1st floor windows.

Interior: central staircase with wrought-iron balustrade;

leaded glass stair window.
