War Memorial, Balvenie Street, Dufftown

The war memorial located on Balvenie Street in Dufftown was designed by A Marshall Mackenzie and completed in 1920. It is constructed from grey granite ashlar and features a shaped plinth on a stepped base. The memorial is topped with a tapering pilaster that is decorated with a simple bronze wreath and a corniced capital, which supports a bronze cross flanked by two bronze angels.

The plinth is adorned with stylised bronze laurel leaves and is inscribed with the names of those who fell in the First World War from 1914 to 1918, with later inscriptions added to commemorate the dead from the Second World War of 1939 to 1945.

The memorial is set within a garden area that is fronted by a low coped rubble wall with spearhead railings. A pair of simple bull-nosed steps lead up to the memorial, and the gates are fitted with plaques that are dated 1914-1918 and 1939-45.
