Description

The Clydesdale Bank, located at 1 Balvenie Street in Dufftown, was built in 1880 in the style of Matthews and Laurie. This two-storey building serves as both a bank and a manager's house, featuring a symmetrical five-bay west front facing Balvenie Street and a pedimented four-bay south facade towards The Square. The exterior is constructed of tooled ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, while the rear is finished in harl pointed rubble.

The west front includes a centrally located door supported by consoles and cornices, with the two central bays of the south elevation being advanced and pedimented. All windows are adorned with moulded architraves and aprons, and the first-floor windows are linked by a string course, featuring two-pane glazing. The building has coped wallhead stacks and a piended platform slate roof with a glazed top light.

Inside, the banking hall showcases moulded door cases, panelled doors, and corniced windows.
