Description
The Clock Tower in The Square, Dufftown, is believed to have been built in 1839. It is a three-stage square clock tower featuring a high crenellated wallhead with decorative dummy angle bartizans and a clock on each face. The structure is constructed of mixed grey granite rubble with tooled pink granite dressings. There is a central door on the south elevation and a corniced entrance on the west. Each elevation has windows on every floor, some of which are blank, with 12-pane glazing and band courses that define the floors. There are also occasional mock circular gun loops. A bellcote rises above the wallhead, topped with a leaded ogee roof, a ball finial, and a weathervane. Additionally, there is a single-storey extension made of pink granite that was added in 1925, projecting to the north.
