The Wardens, Coulardbank Road, Lossiemouth

The Wardens, located on Coulardbank Road in Lossiemouth, is a former school building designed by A and W Reid, dated 1854. This long, gabled, east-facing structure consists of single and two-storey sections and has been converted into two houses. Various wings extend from the rear of the building, which is constructed of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings.

At the near center of the building, there is a gabled projecting porch that serves as the entrance to The Wardens, featuring an apex bellcote. Flanking this porch are two bays that once served as classrooms, along with projecting outer gabled wings. Additional entrances are located to the north and west, leading to The Leas. The glazing is varied, with some original 8-pane sash windows still present at The Leas.

The building's frontage is articulated by tall, coped wallhead stacks and coped ridge stacks, all topped with slate roofs. Surrounding the property are coped rubble retaining walls in the garden that slope in front of the building, along with further rubble walls that enclose the property.
