Hall, Trinity And Alvah Church, Church Street, Banff

The Hall at Trinity and Alvah Church, located on Church Street in Banff, was designed by A & W Reid in 1845. Originally serving as a Free Church of Scotland school, it features a significant later addition at the rear. The original school building is a single-storey, three-bay rectangular structure with a prominent gabled centre bay. It is finished in harled render with ashlar dressings and margins. The centre door, framed by wide ashlar jambs, is set below a gable adorned with simple bracketed bargeboards that mimic a pediment. Above this, there is a bellcote at the apex, although the bell itself is no longer present. The flanking windows retain their original timber sash and case design with margined lying-pane glazing. Each return gable features wide tripartite windows with a similar glazing pattern. The building is topped with a slate roof that has projecting eaves.

The substantial rear addition is a two-storey block finished in harled render and topped with a slated piended roof. This section also features 12-pane glazing in sash and case windows.
