Kennels, Gordon Castle

The Kennels at Gordon Castle, dating from around 1800, consist of a two- and single-storey range of north-facing dwellings and former kennel buildings that have been converted into houses. The structure is made of tooled pinned red sandstone, featuring contrasting yellow sandstone ashlar margins and dressings.

At the extreme left (northeast), there is a two-storey, three-bay house with a central door. The ground floor has four-pane glazing, while the upper floor features twelve-pane glazing. The house has end wallhead stacks and a piended slate roof, along with a rear wing.

Extending west from the west gable of the end house is a continuous range of mainly single-storey, three-bay blocks. The centre of this range is raised to a low two storeys with a loft that has blind fenestration, an off-centre door, and a bandcourse. The glazing includes two- and twelve-pane windows, some of which are blind. The end stacks are coped and panelled, and the roofs are slate.

There are some rear additions, including modern dormers at the back of the centre block. A square court at the rear has been divided into gardens. Later dog kennels are attached to the east elevation of the coped wall, while the remainder of the enclosing wall has been lowered and is without a coping.
