Gamekeeper's Cottage And Kennels, Moncreiffe Estate

Gamekeeper's Cottage and Kennels, located on the Moncreiffe Estate, likely dates from the early to earlier 19th century, with an extension to the south and kennels added in the early to earlier 20th century, which have been altered. This single-storey, three-bay, T-plan (formerly L-plan) estate house features a piend roof and a prominent projecting canted bay topped with a polygonal roof. The exterior is constructed from large droved ashlar blocks and roughly coursed red sandstone rubble, with snecked stugged and droved ashlar on the later wing, along with ashlar quoins and projecting cills.

The east elevation showcases a central projecting canted bay with windows on each face; the central window is blocked, and there is a blocked door on the right return. To the right, a set-back bay contains a single window, a boarded timber door with a two-part fanlight, and an additional boarded timber door further to the right.

The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a replacement brick stack with cans. The eaves are deeply overhanging, exposing the rafters.

Inside, as seen in 2009, the sitting room features elaborate plasterwork cornices decorated with grapevines, a carved timber fire surround with fluted pilasters and frieze, and four-panelled shutters.

The kennels consist of a three-bay range with a piend roof on the east side and a truncated west gable with an exposed fireplace. There are three kennels to the south, each with runs that include hoopwork gates and railings set in semicircular-coped walls. The roof is slated, featuring a good red brick stack with cans and two ridge ventilators.
