Description
The kennels at Mount Stuart House, dated 1876, are a symmetrical single-storey building with five bays arranged in a 2-1-2 configuration. The central bay features an advanced gabled wing, and there is a six-bay wing at the rear, creating an L-shaped plan. The structure is built from harl-pointed sandstone rubble, with stugged yellow sandstone quoins and stugged long and short surrounds framing the round-arched openings. The building has raised, polished hoodmoulds and projecting cills.
On the entrance elevation, there is a bipartite window in the advanced central bay, featuring a polished sandstone mullion, with a circular panel inscribed with what appears to be "1878" positioned above it. Flanking the centre are boarded timber doors set in recessed bays, each topped with round-arched fanlights. There are single windows in the outer left and right bays.
The side elevation includes a recessed six-bay wing, which has boarded timber doors in the penultimate bay to the outer left, the penultimate bay to the outer right, and the outer right bay, all with round-arched fanlights. The remaining bays contain single windows. There is a single opening offset to the left of centre in the advanced gabled wing on the outer right.
The windows are 8-pane, round-arched timber sash and case types. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and the rainwater goods have been replaced. The ridge and apex stacks feature round-arched coping, with square cans.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by boundary walls made of harl-pointed rubble, which have rounded coping and surround an exercise yard at the front, divided at a central point. Above the wall are round-headed wrought-iron railings, and there is a wrought-iron gate to the south.
