Description

The sundial at Mount Stuart is a 17th-century obelisk made of grey sandstone ashlar. It features a square-plan pedestal with a circular base and a square shaft that is divided into five compartments on each side. The sundial has an octagonal capital with sloping facets that connect the shaft to a tapering finial. It includes regularly placed metal gnomons and has inscribed sun motifs on the pedestal facets. The shaft compartments contain heart-shaped, triangular, cut-shaped, and circular sinkings, while reclining and proclining dials are positioned above and below the capital.
