Description

17th century. Grey sandstone ashlar obelisk sundial comprising square-plan pedestal; circular base; square shaft divided on each facet to form 5 compartments; octagonal capital with sloping facets above and below linking shaft and tapering finial; regularly disposed metal gnomons. Inscribed sun motifs set in pedestal facets; heart-shaped, triangular, cut-shaped and circular sinkings set in shaft compartments; reclining and proclining dials above and below capital.
