Description
Laundry Cottage, part of Mount Stuart House, dates from the late 18th century and has undergone later alterations. This single-storey building features a 15-bay former laundry wing arranged in a stepped configuration of 6-5-4, adapting to the sloping site. It has been converted for mixed use, serving as both residential and storage space. The exterior is finished in whitewashed harl, with yellow sandstone ashlar dressings to the right of the center where the store is located. Notable architectural details include a moulded eaves course, strip quoins, painted dressings to the left of the center where the cottage is situated, and chamfered openings.
On the south (entrance) elevation, there are single windows in four bays to the outer right. The central five-bay block features a boarded timber door in the outer right bay and single windows in the remaining bays to the left. To the outer left, there is a six-bay block that includes boarded openings in the penultimate bay and the outer left bay, a single window offset to the left of center, a boarded timber door offset to the right, and single windows in the remaining two bays to the right.
The building predominantly has 12- and 16-pane timber sash and case glazing, with a louvred ventilation opening in the penultimate bay to the outer right (store). The roof is covered with graded grey slate piends, and there are replacement rainwater goods, coped ridge stacks, and circular cans.
