Description

The Filter Bed and Water Tank on the Moncreiffe Estate likely date back to the 18th century and represent a rare and well-preserved example of a private water filtration system. These two small, unobtrusive vaulted structures are built into the hillside, situated on high ground to the north of Moncreiffe House. Each structure features a large ashlar lintel and dressings, along with a small timber door.

The interior of the Filter Bed consists of rubble with an ashlar vault, a double basin, a stone filter bed, and a small arrowslit opening that allows water to enter. The Water Tank has an interior with a red brick vault.
