Description

Dted 1788. 3 storey and attic 5-bay classical house

altered probably at least twice in 19th century. Rubble

built (red sandstone) with ashlar dressings and long

and short quoins, band course at 1st floor level. Centre

bay with open pediment (with datestone), Venetian window

in 2nd floor now partially masked by timber conservatory

over porch; porch mid to later 19th century with

clasping angle pilasters, decorative fanlight perhaps

reused; porch pushed out to accommodate wide, straight

flight of stairs with cast-iron balusters. Small curved

addition to left of porch to provide access to ground

left room, latter with Edwardian screen. Sash and case

windows, tall in 1st floor. Roof (slate) raised circa

1900 when shaped gables and occuli added. Flat roofed

dormers. Rear semi-octagonal, late Victorian, service

stair projection in front of shallow projecting central

bay, original fenestration (now altered) probably lit

original stair; small simplified Venetian window in full

height attic, probably pedimented originally.

Some internal alterations, all chimneypieces removed

except one late 18th century classical example now

inserted in a 2nd floor bedroom.
