Description
The Former Dairy at Moncreiffe Estate was built between 1821 and 1822 by masons Cameron and Gellatly and wright James Murray. This structure is a rare example of a small, imaginatively designed Classical dairy, although it is now roofless. It features a circular chamber to the east, a rectangular central section, and a concave-walled, wedge-shaped room to the west. The dairy is located near Moncreiffe House, likely intended as an eyecatcher beyond the Ha-Ha of the formal gardens, along a pathway leading to the Walled Garden. The building is constructed from droved ashlar with a stone base course, projecting cills, and rougher stonework at the wallhead. It has a grouped three-part diamond-aligned coped ashlar stack.
The south-facing doorway in the center has a six-panelled timber door and a multi-pane fanlight above it. There is evidence of multi-pane glazing in the timber-transomed bipartite windows. The interior no longer survives as of 2009.
