Description
The Stables is a building of uncertain purpose, likely constructed in the late 18th century, and currently used as a dairy. It is made of watershot coursed and squared sandstone with ashlar dressings, topped with a corrugated sheet roof. The building has a rectangular three-bay plan and stands two storeys tall, featuring a symmetrical design. Notable architectural elements include rusticated quoins, a plinth, a ground floor sill band, a flat floor band, and moulded gutter brackets.
In the centre, there is a former doorway with a plain stone surround and a moulded cornice, which has been altered to serve as a window. On either side of this doorway are two oblong windows, one of which has been blocked. The first floor features two bullseye windows and a small inserted door in the centre. The left return wall has a round-headed door on the first floor, while the right return wall has a window on each floor. The rear of the building is concealed by later attached structures. The style of The Stables matches that of the former Clayton Hall, which was built in 1772 and has since been demolished.
