Description
The Barn is a Grade II listed cruck-framed barn, possibly dating from the 16th century, with a later shippon added at the east end. It features coursed rubble walls and a slate roof, with some sections covered in corrugated sheet. The barn has a rectangular plan measuring approximately 35 metres in total, with the barn itself making up about two-thirds of this length. It consists of five bays and has opposed wagon doors in the third bay, along with various windows that are of little interest.
Inside, there are four full cruck trusses, each with curved blades of heavy scantling that rise from ground level, with the stylobates being hardly detectable. The trusses are joined at the apex by collar yokes and are tied into the walls by spurs. They also have spurs to dorsals that support two pairs of trenched windbraced purlins, which are crudely chamfered. The first and fourth trusses are now open to the yoke, while the second and third have collars. All trusses have some vacant housings, possibly for former spurs or tie beams. Although the cruck trusses now lean to the west, they are otherwise in good condition. The shippon includes a loft and a modern roof.
