Description

Sparth House is a late 18th-century house located on Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors. Built in a plain Georgian style, it is constructed with whitewashed scored render on stone rubble, topped with a slate roof and featuring gable chimneys. The house follows a symmetrical three-bay double-pile plan, extending over three storeys. Bands are incorporated at window-head level on each floor. The central doorway is round-headed, adorned with a fanlight containing radiating glazing bars, Tuscan pilasters, and an open pediment. All windows, four at ground floor and five on each upper floor, are sash windows lacking glazing bars, with the second-floor windows being smaller. The rear wall features two tall stairlights in the centre, one round-headed with glazing bars extended as intersecting tracery, alongside various other sash windows with glazing bars. A lower, two-storey service extension with a stone slate roof is located to the left side of the main house. Inside, original panelled doors and doorcases remain.
