Description

11 Elm Row in Lasswade is a house built in the earlier to mid-19th century. It is a two-storey building with a basement and has a rectangular plan with a single-storey wing to the east, situated on rising ground to the south. The main (north) elevation features a forestair.

The exterior is constructed from stugged, squared rubble sandstone, with painted droved margins around the windows and an eaves course. On the principal elevation, there is a doorpiece with an architrave and a pediment located in the bay to the left of the centre. This includes a deep-set timber panelled door with a letterbox fanlight above it, along with a window on the first floor above and a window at ground level in the wing to the outer left. The central bay has a boarded door leading to the basement, a window at ground level, and another window above on the first floor. To the right, there is a small basement window, a ground-level window, and a first-floor window.

The east side elevation features a harled single-storey wing that has a modern, partly glazed timber panelled door and a flanking window to the outer left. Above this wing is a coped ashlar gablehead stack.

The principal elevation has 2-pane timber sash and case windows, while the wing has a 12-pane timber sash and case window. The roof is covered with grey slate, with the wing also having slate. There are coped ashlar skews and corniced ashlar gablehead stacks on the east and west elevations. The property includes wrought-iron railings and ashlar coped steps leading up to the forestair, as well as cast-iron rainwater goods. There is a detached modern brick garage with a flat corrugated iron roof located at the southeast angle of the property. The house is adjacent to the dwellings on Polton Road to the west.
