Description

The Baird Smith Memorial, built around 1861, is a tribute to Dr. Richard Smith and his son Richard Baird Smith. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a tall, ornately carved Celtic cross. The cross is inset with bronze roundels that display bas relief profiles and rises from double sarcophagi. The memorial is set on a large square plinth that includes a carved frieze, shields adorned with Masonic symbols, and rope-mould edging. Surrounding the memorial is a stepped paved area, complemented by a dwarf boundary wall and railings.
