Cemetery, Lasswade

The gates and gate piers at the cemetery in Lasswade date from the early 20th century. They enclose a hillside cemetery, extending southeast and west, and include gates, quadrant walls, and flanking square plan lodges. The walls are constructed from bull-faced and snecked pink and cream sandstone. The lodges feature raised cills on the windows, keystones that break the eaves course, and raised, banded quoins. The walls are topped with ashlar coping.

The gatepiers are tapered, banded, and square in plan, located at the center of the arrangement, with ashlar plinths and pyramid caps. Each upper section of the decorative wrought-iron gates features a flower motif. The gatepiers are connected by stepped quadrant walls that lead to the piers flanking the lodges. The walls extend uphill to the northeast and downhill to the south.

The lodges have outer walls that slightly advance through the boundary walls towards the road. The windows are set high on the road-facing elevations, and there are deep-set, boarded doors on the gate-facing elevations. The boundary-facing elevations also have high-set windows. The lodge to the southeast has an advanced, full-height wallhead stack facing the cemetery.

The windows are fixed with nine panes, and the lodges have swept, grey slate pyramidal roofs topped with double-ended finials. There is an ashlar coped stack at the rear of the south lodge, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
