Description
This footbridge, located over Purvies Hill Burn in the Sunken Garden of Arniston House, dates from the early 19th century but includes fragments from the 17th century. It features a depressed arched, single span design.
On the north elevation, the bridge is constructed from droved and tooled coped ashlar stone, showcasing a 17th century keystone that is adorned with a carved mask and pendant. The left and right wing walls are accented with nail head stone. The south elevation presents a rusticated ashlar basket arched parapet from the 17th century, with channelled voussoirs extending to the jambs. This is flanked by carved Doric pilaster capitals and fluted pilaster tops, with the keystone also featuring a carved, scrolled mask. The south elevation has a tooled arch ring and tooled coping beneath a polished parapet.
