Description
Skeeby Bridge is a bridge that dates from the 17th century, with later additions from the late 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed from ashlar, dressed stone, and rubble. The bridge features four arches that are spaced widely and unevenly, including a dry arch on the north side that has been widened upstream.
On the downstream side, the structure is primarily from the late 18th century, except for the second arch from the left, which is from the 17th century. From left to right, the arches consist of a flat segmental arch made of dressed stone voussoirs, a semicircular arch of dressed stones, a semicircular arch of ashlar voussoirs, and a fourth arch that is mostly below ground level.
On the upstream side, which dates to the early 19th century, the arrangement from left to right includes a segmental arch, two semicircular arches, and a segmental arch made of ashlar voussoirs. The bridge has rubble spandrels and parapets that feature segmental ashlar coping.
