Description

Manor House is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century, constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and features a T-shaped plan with a rear stair turret and an outshut. The building has rough quoins and a central board door set in a moulded, quoined surround with a triangular head.

On the ground floor, there are 2-light double-chamfered mullion windows with a continuous hood-mould above the windows and door. The first floor includes a double-chamfered fire window with a hood-mould, along with two pairs of 2-light double-chamfered mullion windows, each pair also featuring a continuous hood-mould. The house has ashlar kneelers with a quarter-round section and ashlar coping on the raised verges. Corniced ashlar stacks are located at both ends, with the right stack featuring an external stepped design.

To the left of the main house is a former barn that has been converted into an extension, and projecting from it is a single-storey former coach-house, now fitted with garage doors in its hipped gable end, which is not of special interest. The rear of the house showcases a central stair turret that rises above the eaves as a full dormer, featuring 2-light mullion windows with drip-moulds. To the right, there is an original roof dormer with a matching window. An outshut has been added to align with the building line of the turret and includes matching windows, which may have been re-set during the addition.

Inside, the house retains all four original ashlar fireplaces. The ground-floor room on the left has a large flat-headed surround with a moulded and stop-chamfered arris, a fluted frieze, a cornice, and side seats within the fireplace cavity. The room on the right has a chamfered triangular-headed surround, while both first-floor rooms feature chamfered triangular-headed surrounds with cornices. The ground-floor rooms also have stop-chamfered internal door-frames, and the first-floor beams and joists are stop-chamfered. The dog-leg stair in the turret appears to have original treads in the upper section. The roof trusses consist of angled principal rafters, with one having the collar removed.
