Description
The footbridge over Purvies Hill Burn, located in the sunken garden of Arniston House, dates from the early 19th century but incorporates fragments from the 17th century and was rebuilt in the 20th century. It features a flat arched, single span design.
On the east elevation, there is a 17th century carved stone parapet, which includes a central rose surrounded by strapwork, supported by carved corbel stones. Above this, there is a carved foliated finial. To the right, there is an angular stone upright, and to the left, a rectangular 17th century stone upright with an advanced obelisk topped by a spiked globe finial. Each wing wall is adorned with single nailhead stones.
The west elevation showcases a segmental arched coped ashlar parapet, which features a central carved scroll finial.
