Armadale Castle, Skye

Armadale Castle, located on the Isle of Skye, was designed by James Gillespie Graham between 1815 and 1820. Of this original design, only the entrance with flanking turrets and the stairs remain as ruins. The castle was later modified by David Bryce from 1856 to 1858 in a Tudor Gothic style, featuring sneck coursed tooled ashlar with ashlar dressings. The main structure consists of a central recessed three-storey, three-bay block with crenellated towers that rise to four storeys. The entrance is located in the western re-entrant angle.

The first-floor windows are small, featuring two and three lights with cusped heads, while the remaining windows are mostly three lights and mullioned. The towers have corbelled crenellation, and the rear exhibits a simple, nearly symmetrical window arrangement with a central wall-head stack.

Additionally, there is a small two-storey, two-bay addition with a single-storey wing to the east, which is harled and has ashlar dressings. This addition features two pedimented windows that rise through the eaves, along with end and ridge stacks, and a slate roof.
