Description
The Cottage and Newton are a pair of cottages dating from the 1860s, built of tooled rubble with bullfaced stone dressings and crowstepped gables. The Cottage, dated 1868, is a three-bay structure with a central front door and two gabled dormers in the wallhead, featuring 12-pane glazing. The dormer gable of The Cottage is initialled "S" for Sutherland. Newton, situated at a right angle to The Cottage, has an advanced gabled front bay and an entrance on its return southwest elevation. It includes a gabled porch and a large gabled dormer which incorporates a 1866 datestone. This dormer features tripartite 2-pane glazing, and a barred cell window survives to the rear. The roof is slate, with corniced end and ridge stacks. A coped rubble front garden wall is present.
