Description

Dated 1867, Taylors Loft is a Scottish Renaissance style building of two storeys and an attic. It has a three-bay frontage on the northwest side of the street, with a curved angle to the west and a large, crowstepped gable corbelled over the first floor. The building is constructed of coursed, stugged rubble with contrasting, tooled sandstone dressings.

The ground floor features a shop front with a round-headed doorway and two similarly detailed shop windows to the left; a flat-headed window is on the right. A bipartite window is located on the first floor; all other windows are simple sash and case designs. There are two dormers with gabled and bargeboarded fronts, each with sliding sashes to the front and rear, largely featuring 12-pane glazing. The roof is slate-covered and has corniced end stacks.

A circular stair turret extends to the rear of the building, topped with a conical roof. A later two-storey wing extends to the rear, with a frontage onto a side lane. The initials "MPJ" appear on the building. It is shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1873 as the Post Office. The statutory address is Golspie Main Street Co-op Drapery.
