Description

Mullardoch Dam, part of the Glen Affric Hydro Electric Scheme, was designed by engineer James Williamson and constructed by W M Halcrow and Partners in 1952. This prominent dam features a large arrowhead plan with an angled central bastion and is flanked by fixed spillways. It is built using mass gravity concrete construction, with some steel reinforcement. The downstream face is battered, and there is an upstand parapet on the flanking wings, which are terminated by small control towers. The fixed spillways are slightly recessed and located at the center, flanking a large angled central buttress that has a deep parapet.
