Description

The Ratagan Youth Hostel is an earlier 19th-century building, originally a salmon fishing building, now comprising two storeys and seven bays. The exterior is harled and painted, with painted margins defining the window surrounds. Wide entrances are visible on both the north and south elevations, although these are now obscured by modern glazing; the north elevation features two doorways. Windows are provided by 2-pane sashes, and the roof is slate-covered with end chimney stacks. Attached at right angles is a five-bay cartshed constructed of rubble with a slate roof. The cartshed is currently owned by the Forestry Commission. The building was restored in 1978.
