Description
The Allt Ratagain Bridge is a circa 1815 rubble bridge and causeway. The bridge, approximately 35 feet high and 10 feet wide, has a single narrow arch and an overall height of roughly 40 feet. A low parapet runs along the bridge, featuring a sharp bend at the southeastern end and widely splayed sides at the northwestern end. The bridge forms part of the Parliamentary Road, built to connect Glenshiel to Bernera Barracks, Glenelg, and the old crossing to Skye at Kylerhea. Advertisements for tenders for the bridge's construction appeared in the Edinburgh Evening Courant on February 27, 1815, and further details are recorded in the New Statistical Account.
