Description
This is a mid-19th century steading, originally arranged in a U-shape. It is primarily a single-storey building with a loft, although the west wing is single-storey only. The courtyard is enclosed on the south side by a rubble wall with a coping stone, featuring an off-centre entrance. The construction is of rubble with tooled rubble dressings.
The central portion of the steading has an off-centre, segmental-arched pend (gateway). A forestair (exterior staircase) leads to a loft door in a gablet. A gighouse (small room for storing grain) is located in the front gable of the east wing, and slit vents are present in the west wing. Chimneys rise from the roof ridge, which is largely covered with slate.
Portions of the steading have been converted into a dwelling in 1984. The building is also known as Lochournhead House, as marked on Ordnance Survey maps. The statutory address is KINLOCH HOURN STEADING, (THE FARM).
