Description
These are a row of 13 mid-to-late 19th-century byres, situated at right angles to and behind numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8 Corran. They form a continuous row, sharing a cobbled frontage and a common drainage system. The byres vary slightly in size, comprising two, three, and four stalls respectively. They are constructed of rubble with corrugated iron roofs. Originally, the row extended a further two or three units up the hill, although these have since been lost. A lower portion of the byre row appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1872. It is believed that the byres were originally thatched, and that they would have functioned in a similar manner to fishing stores.
