Description

Balcraggie, built in 1831-32, is a two-story, three-bay house. The front is harled with painted margins. The central bay slightly projects and features a pediment. The front door has a moulded doorpiece with a fanlight above, and a window sits above the door, with a bull’s eye window in the pediment. The rear (west) elevation is symmetrically arranged with three bays, and has later double-width windows in the ground floor outer bays. The windows are mostly 12-, 15-, and 18-pane sashes, and the roof is slate with corniced ridge stacks. Later single-story, single-bay additions project from each gable, returning to form a U-shaped plan. A garage door is incorporated into the gable of the north-facing addition, and a section to the south is ruinous.

Described in 1836 as "of considerable extent, and handsome structure," the building was originally the Glenelg Manse. Advertisements for tenders appeared in the Inverness Courier in August 1849.
