Description
This is a mid-18th century post office and associated terraced housing in Glenelg Village. The building comprises two mirrored rows of two storeys and six bays each, for a total of four dwellings in each row. The exterior is harled, except for number 4, which is painted rubble. The houses share symmetrical, small first-floor windows. The two houses at the south end of the terrace are each three bays wide, with a central doorway which is now masked by later, projecting gabled porches. Most windows retain their original four panes, although some twelve-pane windows remain. The roof is slate, with a piended design, and regular ridge stacks are present. The building is said to have been former officers’ quarters of Bernera Barracks, and includes two terraces in the main street, encompassing the post office, number 4 Glenelg, Miss Chisholm's, and Drumfern.
