Description

This is a mid-18th century terrace of six dwellings, forming two mirrored rows of two storeys, six bays each. All buildings are harled except for number 4, which is painted rubble. The houses originally consisted of four dwellings in each row. The first floor has six symmetrical, small windows. The two houses at the south end of the terrace each have three bays, fronted by a central door, which is now concealed behind later, projecting gabled porches. Most windows have four panes of glass, although some original twelve-pane windows remain. The roof is slate, piended, and features regular ridge stacks. It is believed that the terrace was formerly officers’ quarters associated with Bernera Barracks. The statutory address includes the two terraces in the main street of Glenelg, encompassing the post office, Miss Chisholm’s, and Drumfern, all of which were formerly officers’ quarters and contain four dwellings on each side of the road.
