Description
The former Drumfern Officers Quarters consist of a mid-18th century building in Glenelg Village, comprising two mirrored rows of six bays each, providing a total of eight dwellings. The buildings are all harled except for Number 4, which is faced with painted rubble. Each row contains two storeys, and originally featured six symmetrical small windows on the first floor. The southern end of the terrace has four houses, each with a three-bay front and a central door, which are now partially obscured by later, projecting gabled porches. Most windows retain their original four panes, though some twelve-pane windows remain. The roofs are covered with slate and feature regular ridge stacks. The building is believed to have served as officers' quarters associated with Bernera Barracks. It occupies a prominent location in the main street of Glenelg Village, alongside other buildings including a post office and residential properties, all historically associated with the former officers' quarters.
