Description

This large villa, dated 1905, features Scots vernacular details and is located at 42 Newlands Road in Glasgow. The building is white harled with red ashlar dressings and has red tiled roofs. The loss of chimney stacks has significantly altered its profile. It stands two storeys high with an attic. The north elevation facing Newlands Road is plain, with a parapet on the left and a datestone panel. The main front, which faces Lubnaig Road, has a crowstepped tall entrance bay with blank-walled flanking stacks that originally reached high over the wallhead stacks but have now been reduced in height and are separated by rhone pipes. To the right, there is a shaped gabled low projection with a hooded canted ground floor window. The glazing is mostly composed of two-pane lower sashes with multi-paned upper sections, and the building features deep eaves.

The perimeter wall steps down to follow the slope, and there is a main gateway with decorative gatepiers on Newlands Road.
