Description

1876-7 in style of Robert Turnbull (of Thomson and

Turnbull) who continued to produce "Thomsonesque"

designs after Alexander Thomson's death in 1875.

Unusually long 2-storey terrace, curved on plan, with

paired gables at either end, paired doorcases throughout

(mainly 3-bay houses) each with Egyptian-derived central

column, 1st floor windows with pilasters rising out of

window jambs, anthemia in recessed panels between,

frieze with discs. Snecked and squared rubble with

polished dressings, mostly stone-cleaned, 2 houses (nos

26 and 32) painted; unmargined windows (plate glass

sashes), gable windows mullioned; deep bracketted eaves,

fret-worked timber gable-heads, chimney cans to Thomson

design; slated shallow-pitched roofs. Small front

gardens.
