Description
The Oaks is a large asymmetrical villa built around 1905, featuring Arts and Crafts detailing. It has two storeys plus a basement, situated on a slope at the south. The building includes a billiards room, which may have originally been a conservatory. The upper level on the north side is harled, while the rest is finished in cleaned snecked ashlar.
The north entrance front has three bays and features an arched door with sidelights, an oriel window above, and a gabled left bay. There is a chimney breast that is corbelled out between the floors, with an ingleneuk on the first floor; red tiles above the ingleneuk suggest that the main roof was originally red tiled. The windows have stone and timber mullions and transoms, with upper lights that are multi-paned. The deep bracketed eaves and a bowed bay on the east flank extend above the main eaves. The chimney stacks are corniced, and the main roofs are covered with modern grey tiles.
The perimeter wall steps down the slope and features plain ball finialled gatepiers, with the main entrance located at the street corner.
