Towerdene & Gatepiers, 14 Langside Drive, Cathcart

Towerdene is a late 19th to early 20th century villa located on a gushet site at 14 Langside Drive in Cathcart. The driveway enters the grounds at the southwest corner of the garden. The villa is two stories tall and has an asymmetrical, L-shaped plan. It features rock-faced red ashlar with polished dressings, and part of the upper level is white plastered and timber framed.

The right side has an advanced gable with a balustraded, deep bowed window on the ground floor and a cross window above it. The entrance bay is located in the re-entrant angle and includes a gabled timber porch. Above the porch, there is an attic room that is well-lit and has a steeply pitched red tiled roof with a finial. The left side, or west gable end, is canted and includes multi-pane glazing, primarily in sash windows. The roof is covered with green slate, and there are coped end stacks.

The perimeter wall along the street is also made of rock-faced ashlar, and the corniced square gatepiers are polished and channelled, with one featuring a wrought-iron lamp bracket. Decorative cast-iron gates and railings are positioned alongside the wall. At the northeast corner, there is a pedestrian gate that opens onto Langside Road, and steps in the garden lead up to the house.
