Description

The Victoria Park Hotel, located at 221 Ferry Road in Edinburgh, is a 2-storey, 3-bay Tudor villa built around 1860, with later additions. It features a T-plan design and a gabled roof, situated on a corner site with a 3-stage tower attached at the northwest corner. The building is constructed of cream squared and snecked sandstone, accented with stugged ashlar dressings.

On the north elevation facing Ferry Road, the right side has an advanced gabled bay that includes a canted window at ground level and a bipartite window above, both with a hoodmould. There is an arrowslit in the gablehead. The central bay has a door flanked by a narrow closet window to the left, and to the left of the door is a tripartite window with a hoodmould. The first floor features a pair of round-headed windows that break the eaves, topped with gabled dormerheads. The eaves and gables are adorned with filigreed bargeboards.

The tower has a part-blocked hoodmoulded Tudor doorway at ground level and a projecting bipartite window at the first stage, supported by a moulded corbel and stone cap. The second stage has a bipartite window with a hoodmould and a bracketed balconette, topped with a heavy cornice that supports a crested parapet. The other faces of the tower are blank, except for a bipartite window on the second stage, which has a balustraded apron to the west.

The windows throughout the building are timber sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates and features terracotta ridge tiles, along with rendered and ashlar stacks topped with octagonal cans. The property is enclosed by low ashlar saddleback coped rubble boundary walls.
