Description
Pollokshaws Hall, located at 2025 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow, was designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and built between 1895 and 1898, with a datestone from 1897. This burgh hall showcases a Scots Renaissance style, intentionally echoing details from the Glasgow College, which was being demolished around the same time. The building features snecked bull-faced ashlar with polished dressings, strap work pediments, crowstepped gables, and a square tower topped with a distinctive cupola reminiscent of the Glasgow College.
The structure is asymmetrical, with a tall gabled main range oriented east-west. The main gabled west front is complemented by a tower on the north side, which faces a lower square-plan range with an L-plan pitched roof. The roofs are slated and include decorative axial ventilators, with a single tall prominent stack rising between the roof pitches.
Surrounding the hall are modern iron railings on low boundary walls, along with corniced gatepiers, some of which have pyramidal caps.
