Description

Dixon Halls, located at 650, 652, 654, and 656 Cathcart Road in Govanhill, Glasgow, was designed by Frank Stirrat between 1878 and 1879, with a datestone marking 1879. The public halls were a gift from W S Dixon of Govan Iron Works. The building showcases a Scots baronial style and is situated freestanding on an open site, angled to the roadway.

The structure features a lofty main range with crow-stepped gables and an engaged square tower that includes bartizans and a pyramidal slated spire, which is slightly taller than the main range. The southeast gable has an arcaded tripartite entrance with stilted arches supported by stout columns. Above this entrance, there are tall multi-paned mullioned and transomed windows that extend high. The exterior is finished with stugged and snecked ashlar and polished dressings, topped with a slate roof.

Additionally, there is a low boundary wall with iron railings and square gatepiers surrounding the property.
