Description

The building at 45, 47, 49 Bankhall Street in Glasgow is a shoe warehouse, originally designed by Eric A Sutherland as the Govanhill Picture House, which opened in 1926. The structure features a long rectangular plan with a gabled range that faces the street.

The entrance is prominently set forward in the center and is designed in an Egyptian style, showcasing contrasting green and white tiles along with white harl. It has a wide arched opening flanked by a pair of lotus bud columns. On either side of the entrance, there are square turrets topped with octagonal ogee-domed drums, which are enclosed by parapets. An open-worked balcony extends from the mid-wall height on both sides, leading towards a smaller porch on the right. The gabled range is topped with a tiled roof, and the eastern gable head is clad in tiles, with a flat-roofed shallow range abutting it. The interior has undergone significant alterations since its original use.
