Description

202-204 Hunter Street in Glasgow is a tenement and store designed by architect John Gordon, with plans dated February/March 1901 and the building completed in 1902. The structure features a four-storey and attic front facing Hunter Street, divided into two parts with two bays each, all constructed of red ashlar stone. The left section has been cleaned and showcases canted window bays above the ground floor and a parapet. It also includes a large sculptured panel on the left, depicting a 'trophy' with implements and emblems that reflect its historical use as a potato and grain merchants' store. The right side is simpler, with single window bays above a timber-gated cart entry and deep eaves. The large south-facing flank is made of blank brickwork, while the three-storey range at the rear features paired windows that are now sealed up as of 1992.
