Description

Wellpark Occupational Centre, located at 120 Sydney Street in Glasgow, was originally built in 1867 as the Wellpark Institute, a Free Church School. This impressive building features an Italianate design and occupies a corner site with two broadly similar elevations. Each elevation is two storeys high and near symmetrical, characterized by giant pilastered shallow advanced pedimented bays at either end. A corner tower rises two storeys higher and has a domed octagonal top stage. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar and includes architraved openings, with mullioned windows in the pedimented bays. There are deep entablature doors at each front and sash windows throughout, topped by a slate roof.
