Description
The Eastern District Hospital gatehouse, located at 253 Duke Street in Glasgow, was designed by Alfred Hessel Tiltman of London around 1904. This former hospital gatehouse is an elaborately-detailed building made of red ashlar and features a symmetrical three-storey structure with an attic. The front showcases French Renaissance ornamentation, primarily consisting of mullioned and transomed windows with leaded panes. At the ground level, there are arched openings, including a centre bay with curly gables and a triumphal arch arrangement that provides a vehicle entrance, along with a two-storey oriel above. The ends of the building are shallowly advanced and topped with finialed large pavilion roofs. The structure has a granite base, a steep-pitched slate roof, and brick flanks.
